On Monday 13 May 2024, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited Hua Hin Airport to assess its progress towards becoming an international-standard facility. Accompanied by high-ranking officials including Minister of Transport Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Minister of Tourism and Sports Sermsak Pongpanit, the visit demonstrated the government's commitment to the airport's redevelopment.
The delegation, welcomed by Mr. Somkid Chanthamrik, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, inspected the airport's advancements in preparation for international flights. The visit coincided with an off-site cabinet meeting in Phetchaburi, emphasizing the airport's significance in regional development plans.
Hua Hin Airport, managed by the Department of Airports, is undergoing upgrades including runway expansion and safety enhancements to meet international standards. Upon completion, it aims to boost regional connectivity and economic growth.
Currently served by Thai AirAsia with flights to Chiang Mai, the airport's expansion is expected to broaden destination options, stimulating local tourism and trade. The government is committed to completing the upgrades within two years, six months ahead of schedule.
